Looking for help with battery trouble in Thunder Bay?

“5 star rating isn't NEARLY enough! I was traveling interprovincially when my SUV simply died 90km west of Thunder Bay just before 7am. It was -8C outside and seemed to be getting colder. After calling a good friend to inform him of this new development I proceeded to Google searching for a towing company. Northwood Towing had the highest rated reviews so I made the call. I spoke with Tim, owner of Northwood. After agreeing to terms he dispatched a tow truck. Cody and his decked tow truck arrived about an hour later. By this time I was virtually a human popsicle. Cody prompted me to warm myself in the cab of his truck while he secured my SUV on top of the deck of his tow truck. Once secured he asked me where I wanted to deliver my vehicle. I told him that as a stranger to this city I hadn't a clue. As we sat in the cab he began making calls on my behalf. None of the business' that Cody vouched for were able to touch the car for at least a week. I was fudged (word can be replaced by a more colorful metaphor)! Cody spoke with Tim about my circumstance and Tim kindly agreed to let me park my vehicle in his compound in order to figure out next steps. Late afternoon we pushed my vehicle inside once they emptied their bay. Afterwards, Tim dropped me off at a hotel and picked me up the following morning. I then ordered a fuel filter from a local import parts retailer who had the filter overnighted so that I could replace the installed filter in my attempt to repair my car. I had made many calls and was having some difficulties find accommodations. Later that afternoon, to my surprise Tim offered the sofa of his office for as long as I needed a place to stay. He likely saved me $700 - $1000 in accommodations! Just an amazingly kind gesture. My hopes that a simple fuel filter replacement would solve my woes dissolved when my car continued to crank over without starting. That night I spent quite few hours on YouTube trying to absorb information that could help fix my car's issues. Monday mid-morning I spoke with Joel at Up Front Auto & Service who agreed to look at my vehicle on Tuesday or Wednesday. During this time I offered my services - in any capacity to Tim because of his kindness. He offered to pay me but I flatly declined. So, I did a little carpentry and also accompanied Bill on a few towing runs. Tim even filled my tank and gave me 2 bottles of fuel additive before I departed... who does that now adays?! Tim, in my opinion undercharged me for his services. Haha, we even had a cultural exchange, I introduced them to something other than meat and potatoes and I was treated to some of the best burgers, fries, and beef barley soup I've had in a very long time. We might even consider each other better than acquaintances after spending a week together. Tim, Susie, Cody, Bill, and Dave, thank you for your kindness. I truly enjoyed the time spent in your company. To be fair, some of these details are out of chronological order but did happen. IMHO, Northwood Towing is simply head and shoulders THE finest towing company I've ever encountered! Tim is a fine example of a guy willing to pay it forward. What's the saying? Strangers are just friends you've not met yet. These are fine human beings treating people the way they would want to be treated. I am very grateful to you all. Thanks.”

“I understand why they have a perfect review! I bought an antique tractor and the dealership I bought it from recommended Northwoods as they were the ones who pulled the tractor out of the bush and brought it to the dealership. I didn’t want to risk hauling it myself and something happening to it and wanted a reliable company and Northwoods towing was it! The dealership said all towing companies were quoting him at $250+ to haul the tractor out of the bush and down to his shop from out onion lake road and Northwoods towing only charged him $150 so I was thinking I’d get a good deal from there to basically take it 20 minutes down the road from the shop and I paid a little more than I thought I would but it wasn’t horrendous. It was quite reasonable for the situation and just for piece of mind a reputable seasoned driver to take care of it. I didn’t catch the fellow’s name but he was very courteous, even suggesting I get some wood to put under the bucket of the tractor so it doesn’t rip up my lawn. Gave me some tips for working on the machine and was a great guy to talk to. He gave me a business card and it’s now on my fridge as they will be the first choice of any of my future towing needs! Thanks guys, now my 1950s Fordson tractor safely arrived at its new home :) UPDATE: September 2024. I used them again to transport an old ford truck and despite all the curveballs they/Cody was still were able to pick up and transport my truck. I still swear by this towing company and will never EVER hesitate to recommend them!”

“A big shout out to Northwood Towing for helping me out today. My key was stuck in the on position. My towing company advised me there was no tower available and to find service on my own. I had no way to get home to Nolalu from Arthur St. I gave Northwood a call. They said I would have to wait 2 hours or so. Then after asking what the problem was, the owner advised he was on his way home and would stop by to see if he could do anything. He got my car started no problem. They are all super nice people. Thank you again!”

Our son broke down 1.5 hours west of Thunder Bay and Tim was able to send Bill right away. He also sourced the part we needed to fix the car. “Tim was amazing. We lost a wheel 150 km outside of Thunder Bay late at night. He went above and beyond to pick us up, he wasn’t even on call at the time but when no one else was available he got a babysitter and came and got us. He also made sure we had accommodations and co-ordinated with the auto shop for our vehicle repair. I can’t recommend this service enough!”
