Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
A vehicle ahead is making a left turn, and there is enough paved room to pass safely. May a driver pass it on the right?
Blue A follows silver B, which is preparing to turn left, on a wide paved two-way road. Extra paved room is visible to the right of B. The road edge is marked; no shoulder is depicted.
Correct answer: Yes, when it is safe and you stay on the roadway.
Why
You may pass on the right when a vehicle is turning left, or when the roadway has enough unobstructed width for at least two lawful lines of same-direction traffic. The pass must be safe and must stay on the roadway. A paved shoulder is not an extra passing lane.
