Why we built Trusted Local Auto
Finding a mechanic you can trust is one of the most stressful parts of owning a car. Big chains pour money into ads, while the independent shop two blocks away — the one that's been honestly fixing cars in the neighbourhood for 20 years — barely shows up online.
We started Trusted Local Auto to fix that. Our directory exists to spotlight family-owned, independently operated repair and body shops in Canadian cities, so the next time a driver searches “auto repair near me,” they find a real local shop — not just the largest advertiser.
Who runs the site
Trusted Local Auto is operated by the team at Marketing By First Principle, a Canadian small-business marketing studio. The directory is maintained by a small editorial team that personally reviews every listing before it goes live. Editorial decisions, listing inclusion, and shop rankings are kept independent from any paid advertising on the site.
Our editorial standards
Every shop on Trusted Local Auto is vetted against the same checklist before it's published or recommended:
Verified business
Real address, working phone, registered business name, and matching public records.
Reputable reviews
A baseline of authentic positive reviews across Google and other public sources.
Clear service scope
Transparent listing of services offered, vehicle types, and specialties.
Active local presence
Currently operating in the city listed and serving local customers.
Independent and local
Family-owned or independently operated, not part of a national chain.
Re-checked over time
Listings are reviewed periodically and removed if a shop closes or quality drops.
How we make money
Basic listings are free. Shops can optionally pay for a Premium listing or advertising add-ons, which give them a richer page and higher placement on city and service pages. Paid placement is always clearly displayed within the directory's normal layout, and it never lets a shop bypass our editorial vetting. If a Premium shop fails our standards, the listing is removed regardless of payment.

We're a small team and we get things wrong sometimes. If a shop has closed, changed hands, or you've had a bad experience that doesn't match the listing, please let us know— we read every message.
