Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
A crash causes an injury or at least $2,000 in apparent total property damage. No peace officer investigates it. What reporting is required?
Correct answer: Notify police or troopers at once, and report to DMV within 10 days.
Why
Immediately notify local police for a crash within a municipality, otherwise the Department of Public Safety. Within 10 days, send the written or electronic report to the Department of Administration and, if in a municipality, local police. The 10-day report is not required when a peace officer investigates; immediate notice still applies. The law has separate provisions for a person physically unable to report.
