How may a center lane marked for left turns in both directions be used?
A three-lane two-way road has an empty shared center lane. Solid yellow lines are outside, beside the through lanes; broken yellow lines are inside, beside the shared lane. Opposite white left-turn arrows mark the shared lane. Blue A faces east and silver B faces west in their own through lanes.
Correct answer: Only to prepare for and make a left turn when it is safe.
Why
A two-way left-turn lane is reserved for left turns in either direction. In Alaska, its boundary has a solid yellow line beside the through lane and a broken yellow line beside the center lane. Check the shared lane before entering. Do not use it for through travel, acceleration, or passing.
