How do under-inflated tires affect a vehicle?
Two matched tire illustrations on equal display pads. The left tire has ordinary sidewall deflection; the right tire shows extra sidewall flex. No pressure value is assigned from appearance.
Correct answer: Increase fuel use and tire wear, and reduce traction
Why
Check tire pressure regularly against the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. Underinflation can increase fuel consumption and wear while reducing traction; the maximum stamped on a tire is not automatically the vehicle's recommended pressure.
