When may a driver pass another vehicle on the right?
A separated freeway carriageway carries two eastbound lanes beside a median; the other carriageway is outside this view. Blue A is in the right lane, while silver B is farther ahead in the left lane. A continuous white edge line separates the travel lanes from the roadside.
Correct answer: When it is permitted and safe, without leaving the pavement.
Why
A right-side pass may be lawful when the vehicle ahead is making or about to make a left turn, on a clear roadway wide enough for two moving lines in each direction, or on a clear one-way roadway wide enough for two moving lines. The pass must be safe. Do not leave the pavement or main traveled portion to pass.
