During the first six months after a Colorado driver under 18 is licensed, when may a passenger under 21 ride?
Correct answer: Only with a qualifying adult, or a family or medical exception.
Why
During the first six months, a licensed driver under 18 normally may not carry a passenger under 21. Exceptions include a parent, guardian or responsible adult, an adult 21 or older who has held a valid licence for at least one year, a medical emergency, or immediate-family passengers who wear seat belts. During the next six months, the ordinary limit is one passenger under 21. The same statutory exceptions apply. All occupants must be properly restrained, with no more than one front-seat passenger and no more rear passengers than belts.
