Red warning lights flash at a railroad crossing with no marked stop line. Your view of approaching trains is clear. What must you do?
Red railroad warning lamps are shown at a crossing without a gate or a separate stop line. The approach has no vehicle or distance marker.
Correct answer: Stop 15–50 feet from the rail; wait for the warning to end.
Why
Stop 15–50 feet from the nearest rail and wait until the warning ends and you can cross safely. Use a marked stop line when one exists. If the normal range does not give a reasonable view, section 42-4-706 provides a separate nearest-safe-view stopping rule. Never drive through, around or under a gate that is closed or moving.
