Sharing the RoadStandalone practice
On an undivided road, an ice-cream truck displays flashing red lights and extends both its STOP arm and front crossing arm. How should you pass it?
Correct answer: Stop at least 10 feet away; then pass at no more than 5 mph, yielding to pedestrians.
Why
Stop at least 10 feet from the front when approaching or rear when overtaking. You may then proceed at a reasonable and prudent speed no greater than 5 mph, yielding to anyone crossing to or from the truck. A separate exception applies across a safety island or physical barrier. Do not confuse this controlled passage with the school-bus red-light rule.
