How may a shared center lane marked for left turns from both directions be used?
A three-lane two-way road has an empty shared center lane. Solid yellow lines are outside, beside the through lanes; broken yellow lines are inside, beside the shared lane. Opposite white left-turn arrows mark the shared lane. Blue A faces east and silver B faces west in their own through lanes.
Correct answer: For left turns, or U-turns if allowed
Why
A shared center lane is for left turns and U-turns where permitted. Drivers from either direction may enter for those movements, so look for opposing turning vehicles. Do not use it as a through, passing or parking lane. Obey any changing lane controls.
