You approach a stationary car with hazard lights on a highway posted 55 mph. Traffic makes moving away into another lane unsafe. What must you do?
Correct answer: Pass with care at a safe speed, 35 mph or less.
Why
Move to a nonadjacent lane when possible and safe on a qualifying four-or-more-lane roadway with at least two lanes in your direction. If that is impossible or unsafe, proceed cautiously and reduce to a safe speed at least 20 mph below a posted limit of 50 mph or more. At 55 mph, that means 35 mph or less; conditions may require slower. The protection includes a stationary car with hazard lights, not only emergency vehicles.
