Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
For an ordinary pass of another motor vehicle, what do double solid yellow center lines mean?
A and B approach in opposite directions beside double solid yellow lines.
Correct answer: Two-way traffic; no passing from either direction.
Why
Double solid yellow lines separate opposing flows and prohibit crossing them to pass. This question concerns ordinary overtaking. A restriction on passing does not by itself forbid a lawful left turn into or out of an alley, private road or driveway, or another specifically authorized movement. Never assume an exception permits an unsafe crossing.
