Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
On an Illinois freeway, you have finished passing. Another vehicle is behind you, the right lane is clear, and no special condition requires the left lane. What should you do?
Correct answer: Check, signal, and return to the right lane when safe.
Why
Move safely back to the right lane after passing. On an Interstate or fully controlled-access freeway, the left-lane rule has exceptions, including no vehicle directly behind, congestion, unsafe weather, right-lane hazards, yielding to emergency or road-work vehicles, a required left exit, or traffic-control directions. Driving faster never permits exceeding the speed limit.
