You are stopped at a red light on a one-way street. The intersecting street is also one-way, carrying traffic to your left. No sign prohibits the turn. When may you turn left?
Blue A faces north, stopped behind the stop line on a one-way street. The crossing street runs west only. Its red signal faces the northbound approach. White pavement arrows establish both one-way directions.
Correct answer: After a full stop and after yielding, when the turn is safe.
Why
Illinois permits a left turn on steady red from a one-way street onto another one-way street carrying traffic to the left, unless prohibited. Stop fully, yield to pedestrians and traffic, and make the turn only when safe. The same conditional exception applies to a steady red arrow; it does not authorize a left turn from a two-way street.
