A center lane is marked for left turns by traffic from both directions. How should it be used?
A three-lane two-way road has an empty shared center lane. Solid yellow lines are outside, beside the through lanes; broken yellow lines are inside, beside the shared lane. Opposite white left-turn arrows mark the shared lane. Blue A faces east and silver B faces west in their own through lanes.
Correct answer: Only for left turns or a lawful U-turn.
Why
Use a two-way left-turn lane to prepare for or make a left turn into or from the road, or to prepare for or make a U-turn when otherwise lawful. Watch for vehicles entering it from the opposite direction. When provided, make the left turn from this lane rather than another through lane.
