What alcohol rule applies to an Illinois driver under age 21?
Correct answer: Any trace of alcohol can mean suspension.
Why
For a driver under 21, a lawfully requested test showing an alcohol concentration above 0.00 can lead to zero-tolerance suspension. The statute excludes alcohol consumed in a religious service or ceremony and alcohol resulting only from the prescribed or recommended dose of medicine. These exceptions do not permit impaired driving. Refusal of a properly requested test can also have license consequences.
