Why should a driver preserve generous following space behind a motorcycle?
A blue car A follows a helmeted motorcyclist B along one lane of a two-way road. Both travel east. No distance is marked.
Correct answer: A rider may slow quickly, react to surface hazards, or be hard to judge.
Why
A rider may slow or change position for surface hazards that are minor to a car, and a motorcycle's speed and distance can be hard to judge. The handbook recommends at least three or four seconds behind a motorcycle. Increase the margin when conditions require more room.
