Passing target: 7 correct signs and 18 correct rules
You are driving behind a school bus stopped on your roadway with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. What must you do?
School bus B is stopped facing left on an undivided two-lane road with red warning lamps flashing and its stop arm extended. Blue A follows B; silver C approaches from the front in the opposite lane.
Correct answer: Stop and stay stopped until the arm is withdrawn and it is safe.
Why
Stop before reaching the bus and remain stopped while its stop arm is extended. Do not use the bus beginning to move or a change in its lights as permission to pass an extended arm. When the arm is withdrawn, check that children are clear and proceed only when safe. The opposite-roadway divided-highway exception does not apply to a driver behind the bus.
