Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
The centerline has a solid yellow line on your side. May you cross it to overtake an ordinary motor vehicle ahead?
Blue A and silver B face opposite directions on a two-lane road. The yellow center marking is solid on A’s side and broken on B’s side.
Correct answer: Do not cross it to pass another vehicle.
Why
A solid yellow line on your side marks a no-passing restriction for this ordinary motor-vehicle pass. Do not cross it for that maneuver. A lawful turn is a different movement. Indiana also has a specific safe bicycle-passing exception, which requires at least three feet of clearance and safe return.
