The brake pedal does not slow the vehicle. Which response is appropriate?
Correct answer: Pump the brakes, then use the parking brake gently and downshift.
Why
If the brakes fail, keep control, use a lower gear to help slow and apply the parking brake carefully so the wheels do not lock. The manual also describes pumping the pedal to try to restore pressure in a failed system. Controls differ by vehicle: follow its emergency procedure. This is different from routine emergency braking with working ABS, which uses firm continuous pressure.
