Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
Why is a generous following cushion especially important at freeway speeds?
Correct answer: You travel farther while reacting, and braking takes more distance.
Why
At a higher speed, the vehicle travels more feet during the same perception and reaction time, and braking needs more roadway. Even the same following interval in seconds therefore represents more feet. Increase the interval when traction, visibility or other conditions require it; no single count guarantees safety.
