In good conditions, what minimum following interval does the Kentucky Driver Manual recommend?
Blue A follows silver B to the right on a two-way road beside a fixed roadside post. Their lane lies below a separated double yellow pair. The question view has no time count or recommended interval.
Correct answer: At least four seconds
Why
The handbook recommends at least four seconds. Measure from when the rear of the lead vehicle passes a fixed point until you reach it. The law requires a reasonable and prudent gap for speed, traffic and road conditions; it does not prescribe four seconds for every situation. Increase the interval for poor traction, reduced visibility, large vehicles and other hazards.
