Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
What should you do before leaving a parked automatic-transmission vehicle?
Correct answer: Shift to Park, set the brake, stop the engine, take the key
Why
For safe parking, shift an automatic vehicle to Park and set its parking brake before leaving. Kentucky also requires stopping the engine, locking the ignition and removing the key. On a grade, secure the brake and arrange the front wheels to contain a roll. With a curb on the right, point the wheels away from the curb uphill and toward the curb downhill. Without a curb, direct a roll toward the roadside rather than traffic.
