Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You want to pass a bicyclist on a road with two lanes in your direction. The lane immediately to your left is available and safe to use. What must you do?
Blue A follows bicyclist B in the right lane. Both travel right. A broken white boundary separates the clear same-direction lane immediately to A’s left.
Correct answer: Move into the lane immediately to your left
Why
On a roadway with more than one lane in your direction, move into the lane immediately to the left when it is available and safe while passing a bicycle or electric low-speed scooter. On a one-lane roadway, the statute generally requires at least three feet between all vehicle and bicycle parts until safely past, with a reasonable-caution proviso where space is limited. Neither rule permits an unsafe pass.
