Which decision about following distance is safest?
Correct answer: Increase the gap when following a large vehicle on a wet road at night
Why
Increase following distance for poor traction, limited visibility or a large vehicle that blocks your view. Four seconds is the handbook’s minimum guide for ordinary conditions, not a limit on how much space to leave. Extra room ahead also helps you slow gradually when another driver follows too closely.
