Your car has no ABS. On a slippery winter road the wheels begin to lock as you brake. Which response best helps regain control?
Correct answer: Ease off the brake until the wheels roll, then reapply
Why
Without ABS, avoid holding the wheels locked. Ease the brake to let them roll and reapply as needed, following the vehicle’s instructions. NHTSA notes that a non-ABS driver may need to pump the brakes when the wheels start to lock. This differs from working ABS, which uses firm continuous pressure. Neither method makes excessive speed safe on ice.
