After one train clears a crossing, what should a driver do before proceeding?
A waits before a crossing with two tracks after a train has passed. The near crossbuck, 2 TRACKS plaque and YIELD sign share a post; the opposite assembly shows its back. No approaching train, route or safety halo is present.
Correct answer: Look both ways for a second train on another track.
Why
One passing train can hide another on a different track. Look both ways again and wait until all warning lights have ended, gates are fully raised and the tracks and your route across are clear. The first train clearing does not itself authorize crossing.
