For passing an ordinary motor vehicle, what do double solid yellow center lines normally mean?
A and B approach in opposite directions on a road divided by two continuous yellow centre lines. The card names the lines without giving a passing decision.
Correct answer: Neither direction may cross the lines to pass.
Why
Double solid yellow center lines separate opposing traffic and prohibit this ordinary motor-vehicle pass. Maryland allows a safe lawful left turn across a marked no-passing zone. It also allows only the minimum adjustment needed for a safe same-direction bicycle pass, subject to sight-distance restrictions and yielding to the bicycle and oncoming traffic.
