The rear of your vehicle starts to skid. What is the safest initial response?
A is angled during a rear-skid example on a wet road. The question card says the rear slides to the right, but no steering wheel, response arrow or braking instruction is shown.
Correct answer: Release the gas or brake and steer in the direction of the skid.
Why
Ease off the accelerator or braking input that contributed to the skid, look toward the intended path and steer smoothly in the direction the rear is sliding. Avoid abrupt inputs while traction returns. This rear-skid recovery situation is different from normal pedal pulsing during controlled emergency braking with ABS.
