You are on a one-way street and want to turn left onto another one-way street at a steady circular red signal. No sign prohibits the turn. What is permitted?
A approaches a red signal where one northbound one-way street meets a westbound one-way street. Direction arrows show the two streets; A is back from the stop line with no turn route.
Correct answer: Turn left after a complete stop and the required yielding, when it is safe.
Why
After the required stop, Maryland permits a left turn from a one-way street onto a one-way street unless a sign prohibits it. Yield to pedestrians lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and vehicles lawfully using the intersection. The ordinary exception does not authorize a left turn from a two-way street merely because the receiving street is one-way.
