How soon must the required written crash report be filed?
Correct answer: Within five days.
Why
The ordinary statutory deadline is within five days after a reportable crash. A physically incapable operator is not required to report during the incapacity period; if that operator is not the owner, the owner has a specified five-day reporting duty based on available information. Send the report to the registrar and a copy to the police department with jurisdiction; follow the RMV instructions for the insurer copy as well.
