Passing target: 72% (18/25)
You approach a stationary emergency vehicle with flashing lights. Your highway has at least four lanes, including two in your direction, and a safe change away from the adjacent lane is practicable. What must you do?
Blue A approaches police vehicle B, which is stopped on the shoulder with warning lights. Two travel lanes in A's direction are visible; A is in the adjacent lane.
Correct answer: Slow to a safe speed, use caution, and move to a nonadjacent lane.
Why
Proceed with due caution and reduce to a reasonable safe speed for conditions. On a highway with at least four lanes and at least two in your direction, change to a nonadjacent lane when practicable. If the change is impracticable, caution and reduced safe speed still apply. The law covers qualifying stationary emergency response, highway maintenance and recovery vehicles with flashing lights.
