What is the safe and lawful practice for occupants where safety belts are provided?
Correct answer: Make sure each occupant wears a properly adjusted belt
Why
Each covered occupant must wear a properly adjusted and fastened belt. Keep the lap portion low, flat and snug over the hips, and the shoulder portion across the chest and shoulder. Do not put the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back. Air bags supplement belts rather than replace them. Specific statutory exemptions are separate from the general safety recommendation to buckle up.
