You are installing a child restraint for a young child. Which approach is correct?
Correct answer: Use a restraint for the child's age and size, installed as the maker directs.
Why
Choose and install the restraint for the child's age, size and manufacturer limits. Current Michigan law uses rear-facing restraints until age two or the manufacturer's height or weight limit, forward-facing harness restraints until age five or their manufacturer limit, and boosters until age eight or 4 feet 9 inches. Covered children under 13 must ride in the rear when equipped, subject to the all-rear-seats-occupied-by-children exception. Never place a rear-facing restraint before an active front airbag. Keep a child in an appropriate stage as long as the manufacturer's limits allow.
