Passing target: 8 correct signs and 24 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
You plan a right turn at a driveway. A bicyclist is traveling beside you in the bicycle lane and will reach the driveway at the same time. What should you do?
Blue car A and cyclist B travel east beside one another. B is in the bicycle lane along the right edge. A intends to turn right into the driveway ahead, crossing B’s path. The upper lane carries opposing traffic.
Correct answer: Wait for the bicyclist to clear the conflict, then turn when safe.
Why
Check the bicycle lane and blind area before turning. Allow the bicyclist to clear your turning path and make the turn only when safe. The handbook calls for extra care where bicycle lanes cross driveways and intersections, and says not to use the bicycle lane for ordinary driving, passing or making a right turn.
