Passing target: 80% (24/30)
Traffic is heavy and slow. A sign shows that your lane is closed ahead, and cars are backing up. What is the correct way to merge?
A is in the right lane beside slow traffic in the left lane. Approved cones form a temporary taper over continuous pavement. An orange RIGHT LANE CLOSED AHEAD sign stands on a mast on the upper grass. No merge route is selected.
Correct answer: Stay in your lane to the merge point, then take turns with the open lane
Why
The zipper merge can make a backup up to 40 percent shorter. It also makes the speeds in the two lanes more equal, so lane changes are easier and safer. It gives more safety to road workers when a lane is closed for work.
