After an alcohol-related license action, which driver must have an ignition interlock device installed before the license is reinstated?
Correct answer: A driver whose alcohol conviction involved a BAC of 0.15% or higher
Why
An ignition interlock measures alcohol in the driver's breath before the engine starts and at intervals while driving. It must stay on every vehicle the person drives for at least six months after reinstatement, and violations in the last three months extend that period. The driver pays for installation and monthly service, and failing to keep the device leads to a new suspension.
