Your car has an air bag in the steering wheel. How should you set your seat and hold the wheel?
Correct answer: Leave at least 10 inches between you and the wheel, with hands near 9 and 3 o'clock.
Why
A steering-wheel air bag opens with great force in a split second, and it can injure a driver who sits too close, especially a shorter adult. Keeping at least 10 inches between your chest and the wheel gives the bag room to fill, and holding the wheel at about the 9 and 3 o'clock positions keeps your hands and arms clear of it. Air bags add protection only when you also wear your seat belt.
