Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You are driving on the freeway with adaptive cruise control set when heavy rain begins. What does the Nevada handbook advise?
Correct answer: Turn it off and control your speed and following distance yourself.
Why
Adaptive cruise control speeds up or slows down to keep the following gap that you set, and some systems can stop and restart in traffic jams. On wet pavement you may need to slow down sooner and more gently than the system would, and you must be ready to brake or steer at any time. The handbook lists it as a convenience feature that you may not use during the drive test.
