A driver in Nevada gets 12 demerit points for violations within 12 months. What does the DMV do?
Correct answer: It suspends the license, because 12 points in 12 months is the suspension level.
Why
Each traffic conviction adds points by how serious it is, from 1 point for speeding 1 to 10 mph over the limit to 8 points for reckless driving. A driver with 3 to 11 points can remove 3 points by completing an approved traffic safety course, only once in 12 months, and the conviction stays on the driving record. Points are doubled for certain violations in an active school zone.
