Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
You are driving alone on a weekday morning. The left lane has white diamonds painted in it. This overhead sign shows a white diamond, the number of people that a vehicle must carry to use the lane, and weekday hours. It is now within those hours. What should you do?

Correct answer: Stay out of that lane during the posted hours, because your car does not meet its rider rule.
Why
High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes help buses and shared rides move faster. New Jersey law defines an HOV as a vehicle carrying two or more persons, as set by transportation rules (N.J.S.A. 39:1-1), but always follow the rider number and hours on the posted signs. Drivers who do not qualify must stay out of the lane while its limits are in effect.
