On a two-lane road, a school bus stops in the oncoming lane to let children off. Its red lights flash and its stop arm is out. When may you drive past it?
A approaches an oncoming school bus B stopped on a two-lane road to let children off. B’s red warning lamps are lit, its STOP arm is extended, and two children are on the sidewalk beside A’s side of the road.
Correct answer: After the stop arm is in, the red lights are off, and the bus has started to move
Why
Children who leave a school bus often cross in front of it, and they can dart into traffic without looking. The three conditions give them time to reach safety before any car moves. The same all-traffic stop applies on a two-lane road with a center turning lane and on a four-lane road with no median.
