You check your tires before a trip. One rear tire has only 1/32 inch of tread in its grooves, but no cords show and the sidewall has no bulges. What is true about this tire in Oklahoma?
Correct answer: It is not legal, because the tread is below the 2/32-inch minimum.
Why
Worn tread cannot push water away, so a bald tire can hydroplane and needs more distance to stop on a wet road. Oklahoma also treats a tire as unsafe when cords show in the tread or when bulges show in the tread or sidewall. The manual tells you to use a penny to check: put it in a groove with Lincoln's head down, and if you can see all of his head, the tread is too shallow.
