You do the penny test on your front tire. At the point where the tread looks lowest, you put Lincoln's head into a groove. You can see all of Lincoln's head. What does this tell you?
A copper penny is placed headfirst into a shallow tire groove, with all of Lincoln’s upside-down head visible above the tread. A larger detail repeats that view; the card identifies a front tire’s lowest-tread point.
Correct answer: The tread is too low; have the tire replaced before you drive.
Why
Check your tires once a month and before a long trip. Worn tread makes hydroplaning more likely on wet roads. Also check the air pressure when the tires are cold, and use the number in the owner's manual or on the driver's door jamb. Tires with good tread and the correct pressure are also less likely to blow out.
