Passing target: 80% (32/40)
Car A is following B at night within 60 metres and is not overtaking. Why should A use low beams?
Blue A follows silver B on a dark road. The upper diagram shows their road positions to scale. The lower view enlarges the cars; its spacing is not to scale.
Correct answer: High beams can dazzle B’s driver through the mirrors
Why
Use low beams when following within 60 metres so that your headlights do not dazzle the driver ahead through their mirrors. PEI’s rule has an exception while actually overtaking and passing; this example is ordinary following. The 60-metre threshold is not a recommended following gap or a beam range.
