Passing target: 80% (32/40)
Your car is stranded in a snowstorm, safely off the highway and away from passing traffic. What is usually the safest plan while awaiting help?
A snow-covered blue sedan appears in a clearly bounded vehicle-detail inset below a separate highway. The vehicle is already stopped safely off the highway.
Correct answer: Stay with the car, seek help, keep warm and manage exhaust and ventilation
Why
If the location is safe from traffic, stay with the vehicle and call for help when possible. Use warm clothing and supplies. For an engine-powered vehicle, keep the tailpipe clear, open a sheltered-side window slightly and run the engine as little as needed. A partly open window alone does not make exhaust exposure safe. Call 911 for an emergency and follow responders’ instructions.
