A railway crossing gate is lowering or remains down, and the red lights are active. What should you do?
A blue car is stopped before a lowered railway gate with red warning lights active.
Correct answer: Wait until the gates are fully up, the lights are off and it is safe.
Why
Stop before the gate and at least 5 m from the rail. Never drive around or under a closing barrier. Wait until the gates are fully raised and the warning lights are off, then check for another train and enough room beyond the crossing. A suspected equipment fault is a reason to report it, not to ignore the barrier.
