You are driving an ordinary car toward a railway crossing with no STOP sign, gates or warning lights. What should you do?
Correct answer: Slow down, look and listen both ways, then cross when safe.
Why
Approach cautiously, look both ways and listen for a train. If you see or hear a rail vehicle approaching, stop at least 5 m from the track even without warning lights. Cross only when the way is safe and there is room for the entire car beyond the tracks. A STOP sign or a special vehicle class can add a separate stopping duty; neither is part of this question.
