Red warning lights are flashing at a railway crossing. No gate or separate stop line is shown. What must the driver do?
A blue car approaches a railway crossing with flashing red warning lights. No gate or separate stop line is shown.
Correct answer: Stop at least 5 m from the rail until it is safe to go.
Why
Stop before the crossing, at least 5 m from the nearest rail. Do not proceed while the warning lights are active. When the warnings end, check both directions and make sure no other train is approaching and your entire vehicle can clear the tracks. This railway rule says at least 5 m; the school-bus rule says more than 5 m.
